Bethel's downtown is a popular destination with its old fashioned storefronts, cobblestone sidewalks, antique street lamps and charming restaurants.
Bethel is flourishing with new construction and renovated homes in many established neighborhoods. There are two industrial parks located in town. One which includes the headquarters of the bicycle manufacturer Cannondale and the other is Duracell the battery manufacturer.
Right in the geographical center of town is the 140-acre David W. Deakin Educational Park which is home to Bethel's five schools.
Fairfield County, Westchester County in New York and New York City are all easily accessible from Interstate 84 and Route 7. Commuters will enjoy the Metro North Railroad stop downtown that has direct service to Norwalk and connecting service to Grand Central Station.
The Bethel Parks and Recreation Department manages the youth and adult sports leagues, a skating pond and picnic areas. A network of walking and jogging trails are available in the parks. Putnam Memorial State Park offers cave exploration and hiking. Partially extending into Bethel is the 878-acre Collis P. Huntington State Park.
